Meet William Laurie

Meet William Laurie, Founder of The American Academy
Our Founder

Welcome to The American Academy. The American Academy program is an outgrowth of my own personal experiences with learning. As a child, I experienced a difficult time in school and did not understand why I did so poorly until, as an adult, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. As a result, I became passionate about developing a school for students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and mild auditory processing issues.

At The American Academy, we have been educating advanced students with mild learning differences throughout South Florida for over 50 years.

We are proud of how our program has evolved into the only school that addresses academics, fine arts, and athletics to the extent that we do, which makes us known throughout the nation and the world as a leader in education.

The American Academy students thrive in our well-rounded program that focuses on the whole child. We offer a comprehensive fine arts and athletics program that complements classroom learning and offers the opportunity to explore interests and discover hidden talents. Our American Academy alumni always return to campus beaming with pride over the successes they have had in college and in their careers thanks to their schooling at The American Academy.

As you browse our website, you will find information about our campus facilities, the curriculum, and the specialty programs in our Lower and Upper School as well as the various activities that take place at The American Academy each day.

Thank you for your interest in The American Academy program. Please contact admissions to schedule a personal or virtual tour at either of our two campuses in South Florida.

We look forward to meeting you and discussing the program most suitable for your child.

Sincerely,

William R. Laurie, CEO and Founder
