Paola Banos, class of 2014, became even more passionate about photography when she joined the yearbook staff as a photographer her senior year. “I learned to use a camera, and I just loved capturing moments and memories that would last a lifetime in a book,” Paola said. Her love for photography turned into a business in 2020. She created Picturesque Critters and visits homes to take photos of all kinds of pets from spiders to horses.
Paola started at American Academy as a freshman after being diagnosed with a mild learning difference. She knew the small class sizes would be beneficial; however, she never expected the myriad of classes and extracurricular activities she was able to choose from. Additionally, she credits Mrs. Malloy, her guidance counselor, for helping her find the right university for her. “She looked at what I could manage at an educational level and the location of where I wanted to study.”
Paola attended Lynn University and graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship and a Masters in Marketing in ‘19. Since English was not her first language, the assistance she received from her teachers and counselors while at American Academy helped her with papers while in college: “We would write papers APA style, and that was the style of writing I had to do at Lynn University. The motivation and time management I learned at American Academy played a huge role in making sure assignments were turned in when required, even in college.”
Overall, Paola says she wouldn’t change anything about her experience at Heritage: “I would tell families to get a tour of the school and see all the amazing opportunities they have to offer.” Hopefully others will find their passion like Paola did.
